GARAGE DOOR SAFETY
Did you know that the garage door is the largest moving object in your home? Accidents involving garage doors or automatic openers can cause serious injury or even death. Although, the introduction of mandatory safety eyes in 1993 has significantly reduced the number of these injuries, garage doors may still be a serious hazard.
Overhead doors are in effect a moving wall and by nature require periodic inspection and maintenance. To help avoid potential problems or accidents here are a few tips in regards to them:
1) The first thing of course is to have a trained professional service and inspect your door annualy, as recommended by the Door and Access Sytems
Manufacturers Association. Doing this can help avoid potential problems and keep your door operating safely and smoothly.
2) Do not stand or walk under a moving door. Do not let children play "chicken" or "beat the door". Warn older children.
3) Make sure the door is clear before activating an opener. Continue to watch until it has finished its cycle. If possible, mount wall controls out of reach of children.
4)Teach children to keep fingers and hands clear of moving parts.
5) Do not allow children to play with remote controls.
